Adobe has announced that its video editing tools are the most popular among filmmakers participating in the Sundance Film Festival for the fifth consecutive year. Film editing is almost entirely dominated by Adobe software.
This year’s Sundance Institute annual survey found that more than two-thirds (67%) of Sundance Film Festival films have used Adobe Premiere Pro or Frame.io to bring their stories to life: Premiere Pro is the most popular video editing software at the festival, used by more than half of the films, including Plan C, Going Varsity in Mariachi, Sometimes I Think About Dying, and Fremont , among many others.

Moreover, almost three-quarters of those films were made using these Adobe Creative Cloud tools: After Effects , Photoshop , and Substance 3D Collection .
“ I love how collaborative and intuitive Premiere Pro is ,” says Meredith croatia number data erry, editor at Plan C. “Premiere Pro helped us stay on track during the edit and offered us specific features that were essential to the making of this film, like the mosaic effect, which offered a flexible and artistic option that we used to blur faces and was crucial to protecting our participants from violence and/or persecution.”
The Sundance Institute uses Adobe’s cloud video workflow , including Camera to Cloud, Premiere Pro, and After Effects, to create daily festival recaps and social media videos.
Camera to Cloud: Eliminates the need to download files and lug around hard drives so file transfer is nearly instantaneous . And Adobe Sensei AI and Premiere Pro machine learning features like Speech to Text and Remix and Replace Images and Videos in Motion Graphics Templates reduce repetitive tasks at every stage.
“We’ve always been proud of our daily briefs. Adobe’s cloud video workflow has made it possible for our teams to bring together the most diverse content from our event and then collaboratively turn it into engaging content the next day, capturing the emotion and amplifying the moment,” said Holden Payne, Technical Director of Exhibition at Sundance Film Festival.
“This improved workflow has taken the pressure off our creative and editorial teams and will enable them to put great content on screen,” he adds.
