Unless you plan to create a text-only website, you will need to manage a variety of media files such as images, videos, GIFs , audio files, and even PDFs. Fortunately, WordPress allows you to manage all of these assets using its built-in media library.

In this article, we will explain what the WordPress Media Library is and where to find it. We will look at what file formats it supports and how to upload those files to your site. Finally, we will discuss the proper use of the Media Library and the different ways to extend its default functionality using plugins.

What is the WordPress Media Library?

The upload date, who uploaded it, the name, type, weight and size of the file
An option to change the image

If you click the Edit Image button , you will have access to a number of basic options for editing image files. For example, you can:

Rotate, flip and crop the image with a drag and drop tool
Resize the image by manually entering the dimensions
Crop the image manually by entering exact dimensions or aspect ratio
Decide whether to apply the changes to all image sizes or just some of them
Editing an Image from the WordPress Media Library
When you upload an image to WordPress, the platform automatically generates multiple variations of different sizes, including a miniature (or thumbnail) version. So you can choose which image size to use in your posts and pages.

You can preview your changes in the left window and save them by clicking the corresponding button . Keep in mind that WordPress's built-in image editor is a very simple tool. If you want to make significant changes to your images, we recommend using dedicated image editing software before uploading your files to WordPress (such as GIMP or Photoshop).
