The inauguration of the health check-up and public awareness program for drivers with the aim of implementing safe roads in Khulna was held at Sonadanga Bus Stand premises in Khulna on Monday morning. The event organized by the Khulna District Administration was attended by the newly elected Mayor of Khulna City Corporation, Talukder Abdul Khalek, as the chief guest. The chief guest said that to bring order to the traffic in the city, car parking should be stopped everywhere in the city and the easy bikes plying in the city should be brought under proper management.
Transport owners, workers, public representatives, administration and conscious people will be involved in eliminating mismanagement in the transport sector. Others at the event said that with the c level contact list increase in the country's population, the use of roads and highways is continuously increasing.
But the carrying capacity of the roads is not increasing. Therefore, the roads are continuously becoming unsafe. Roads can be made safer through planned management.
Increasing awareness among road users can play a role in this. As per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, no driver will be able to drive a motor vehicle for more than five hours at a time. Drivers will have to undergo a health check-up every three months to ensure their good health. It is also essential for drivers to ensure adequate rest and sleep. Drivers should refrain from using mobile phones while sitting in the driver's seat, disobeying traffic laws and road signs, and talking to anyone while driving. For greater safety, seat belts should be used and necessary documents including valid licenses should be renewed regularly and stored in the vehicle.
It should be remembered that momentary inattention causes many major accidents and brings loss of life and property. Not only the driver is responsible for road accidents, but unsafe and unplanned roads also act as a factor in this.
Khulna-2 MP Muhammad Mizanur Rahman, Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah, Civil Surgeon Dr. ASM Abdur Razzak, Deputy Director of BRTA Md. Ziaur Rahman and ADC Traffic Md. Kamrul Islam were special guests at the event. Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain presided over it.
Additional District Magistrate Golam Mainuddin Hasan welcomed the gathering. Freedom fighter Alamgir Kabir and Motor Workers Union General Secretary Md. Zakir Hossain Biplob spoke among others. After the program, a day-long health check-up for drivers was inaugurated by the Civil Surgeon's Office.
