I've realized that, despite the fact that I often mention it on the blog, I've never explained in detail what black hat SEO is. It's time to fix that historical mistake, don't you think? Let's get to it.

What is Black Hat SEO?
Black hat SEO is the name we give in online marketing to all those positioning techniques that try to trick search engines into achieving a better ranking than they should. In other words, it is about cheating. People who use black hats are known as black hatters in the SEO world.

We always say that SEO works in the medium and long term, and that it takes time and effort. However, black hat offers quick results with little effort. Who wouldn't take the easy way?

Well, like everything in life, if something seems too good to be true, it is because it hides some inconvenience, sometimes monstrous. Black hat is no exception. Black hat in web positioning would be overseas chinese in australia data like doping in the world of sport: a set of “not recommended” techniques to quickly position oneself in search engines.

Why not use Black Hat SEO?
Although it is black hat that black hat gives you good results, Google (and the rest of the search engines) do not like it one bit. They go against their quality guidelines and therefore they actively pursue them. Many of Google's algorithm updates are aimed at penalizing the most used black hat techniques at that time.

Let's say that using black hat is like defrauding the Treasury. It may work for a while, but the chances of getting caught sooner or later are high. And the punishment is severe. Sometimes there is no other solution than to start changing domains and starting from scratch.

In my opinion, it is not worth the risk. The best way to achieve good SEO positioning is to follow Google's rules and offer users quality content.

Black Hat SEO techniques most used in the past
Now for those of you who are curious, here are some of the black hat techniques. I hope you will engrave them in your memory as what a good SEO should NEVER do.

SPAM
SEO spam consists of commenting on forums, blogs, news pages, with the aim of leaving links to our website. In reality, it is not so much a bad practice as a corrupt practice. You can comment on other sites, even if the site has some relation to the theme of your website; what is considered bad practice is writing comments on any site, regardless of what is discussed there.

That is to say, if you run a health page, it is not appropriate for you to comment on the Big Brother forum, for example. Comments such as “Great post!” are also not well received. Besides, forum administrators and others are more than aware of these practices and will not hesitate to ban anyone who is found wanting. The use of backlinks (links to our website from other websites) is a whole science and therefore deserves a separate chapter.
