First, what is intrapreneurship?
Intrapreneurship is a reference to the internal entrepreneur — that is, the professional who is already part of the company's staff, but who is able to look at the organization's problems from a different angle and propose solutions outside the ordinary.
In many ways, Google is a reference in the business world, including intrapreneurship in companies. The technology giant has an incubator so that its most entrepreneurial employees can start their own startups without leaving the company.
Called Area 120 , it works like this: interested employees present their projects to the incubator and, if approved, these talents, internal entrepreneurs, can work full-time to develop them, in partnership with Google itself.
This example of intrapreneurship illustrates very well what this concept is: undertaking within the company, without having to leave to start a project or solution from scratch.
An important addendum: you don’t need to have Google’s resources and culture to encourage intrapreneurship in your company. Remember that creative idea that a talent came up with to improve the company’s results? If it’s a good one, let them put it into practice.
This is what happened with another example of intrapreneurship that we are going to present: Positivo Informática , which used to be a college. One of its professors presented the (incredible) idea of producing computers. The dean accepted it and the place started assembling computers for the educational market. It worked!
Currently, Positivo is a technology giant and the professor is the company's president.
But what is the role of the intrapreneur? Note that intrapreneurship is linked to the generation and execution of ideas that come from innovative employees . Thus, everyone, talents and companies, benefit.
What are the benefits of intrapreneurship in companies?
Intrapreneurship offers a number of benefits to employees. They can feel freer to pursue their own projects, as well as experience a higher level of well-being and quality of life . And what does the company gain? We’ll explain below!
