As , on the morning of October 18, 2023, when Pashkov was on combat duty, he received a report about the detection of a low-flying, low-speed aerial target. The reporter gave him his call sign, but the officer who received the message made a mistake in the call sign number, reporting to the leadership that the unidentified target was in another location, saying that a decision had to be made to destroy the target.
Later, the crew chief clarified that the target was a helicopter flying with its lights on, but it was too late. Pashkov did not believe the additional reports, and an inspection showed that there were "no stockholder database aircraft" at the location where the target was detected. As a result, two minutes after the first report, the target was destroyed by a missile, and a little later it turned out that the air defense system had worked on its own.
Pashkov signed a confession, admitting his guilt in full.
