Alexey Kiselev, Head of Small and Medium Business Clients at Kaspersky Lab, spoke about the global pivot to Linux solutions during a webinar dedicated to the transition to Russian software. According to him, the main trends for software manufacturers in the field of information security in 2022-2023 were the expansion of the product line to replace foreign products, the development of security solutions for Linux and Russian OS (operating systems).
"The trend has become the iran whatsapp resource development of security solutions for machines and equipment running on Linux operating systems due to their higher prevalence, and the integration of functionality that was previously available for Windows solutions into Linux solutions. And support for the most popular platforms based on domestic operating systems and virtualization platforms. This has also been a trend for the past year," said Alexey Kiselev.
According to him, Kaspersky Lab has recorded a multifold increase in demand for mail server solutions during this period - previously, this niche was 70% occupied by foreign companies.
Not only IB
systems at the custom software development company Auriga LLC, noted that demand for Linux solutions is seen not only in the area of information security.
"This trend is confirmed in our practice. More and more Russian companies are showing interest in adapting Windows functionality to Linux and Russian OS for a number of reasons, including security, economic benefits, compliance with legislation, localization and the desire for technological independence," Vladimir Suvorov told ComNews.
Ivan Korotkikh, head of the .NET practice at digital solutions developer Reksoft, noted that interest in Linux solutions began to appear long before the topic of switching to Russian software became relevant due to the development of Linux servers.
"Linux is used as a server OS, that is, as the basis for corporate IT systems and platforms. There are no changes here. The share of Linux distributions used as client OS for the mass market is insignificant and is based mainly on enthusiastic developers," Ivan Korotkikh told ComNews.
According to him, the transition to Linux solutions is not yet typical for client software. "There are solutions that allow programs developed on Windows to be launched under Linux, but at the cost of significant losses in productivity. There is no noticeable trend towards increased interest in porting client software for ordinary users, as this is very labor-intensive both in terms of time and investment. Perhaps, the exception is office applications," Ivan Korotkikh added.
