Where will the billions go?

Post by tanjimajuha20 »

The allocation of 12 billion rubles for 5G communications was announced by the Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin at a government meeting on August 7. "In order to facilitate the transition of operators to fifth-generation mobile networks, this year we will additionally allocate about 3.5 billion rubles for the production of base stations in our country. In total, almost 12 billion rubles have been allocated from the budget for these purposes over the past three years," said Mikhail Mishustin.

According to the Russian jamaica whatsapp resource government, work on creating Russian base stations to replace foreign ones, the supply of which was suspended after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine (SVO), is being carried out on the instructions of the president within the framework of the roadmap "Modern and promising mobile communication networks" until 2030. It includes several state support programs, including subsidies for the production of communication devices.

On July 28, 2023, Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to allocate RUB 3.399 billion as a subsidy to the limited liability company KNS GROUP (Yadro) to reimburse the costs of creating a subsystem of GSM/LTE/NR (5G) base stations for public communication networks, including using the Russian electronic component base.

"The decision taken will provide cellular coverage on a hardware base made in Russia. This will help achieve technological sovereignty and give our citizens the opportunity to use fast and reliable communications. We also hope that research and development work in this area will be effective and that our companies will continue to create domestic solutions and improve what is in the pipeline," said Mikhail Mishustin, commenting on the allocation of funds.

Alexander Sivolobov, Deputy Head of the NTI Competence Center at Skoltech for Wireless Communications and the Internet of Things, noted that the subsidy for KNS GROUP should compensate for part of the costs of creating base stations of GSM, LTE and 5G standards in accordance with the roadmap for the development of the high-tech direction "Modern and Promising Mobile Communication Networks", incurred in 2023.

"The allocated funds must be used in accordance with the goals and objectives defined within the framework of the roadmap. The subsidy is not intended to co-finance production," noted Alexander Sivolobov.

The press service of the Yadro company told ComNews that the development, including the creation of prototypes, will cost no less than 25 billion rubles, and most likely much more.

"The state is ready to subsidize part of the funds, no more than half, compensating for the money already spent, provided that a certain level of technological readiness is achieved. The roadmap lists more than 80 products necessary for the launch of 5G, of which 19 products are assigned to Yadro," said a company representative.
